Medium Oak colour with broken arch hood and mahogany panel below arch.
Reeded mahogany pillars to hood with quarter - repeated pillars to back of hood.
Long trunk door with wavy top.
Quarter reeded mahogany pillars to side of trunk.
Cross banding to hood door, trunk door and base.
Escutcheon with bird feature.
Width at widest point is 20.75 ins (hood top).
Ogee feet (original).

Brass 18.75" x 13" arch dial.
Rolling moon with night sky, stars and clouds.
Good quality brass spandrels of bold cherub head design.
Matted dial centre engraved with gilded design.
Second dial recessed and having Tudor rose centre.
Sophisticated Moon click driven from bottom of dial with extended levers.
Silvered arch bearing name' John Smith Chester', minute chapter ring, calendar
dial.
Chapter ring having north west style half - hour markers of twisted leaf design.
Matching steel hour and minute hands.
Salt box calendar aperture.

the same person or a father and son of the same name.

maker of this clock as this is the era when the clock was made.
John Smith of Chester who worked in Foregate Street in 1781. His name
did not appear in the local directory of 1795 and it is not known if he
was still
alive by then.
