moulding.
Typical Midlands style with features found in this area such as
domed inlay to top.
of trunk long door with mahogany cross banding.
Brass capped reeded pillars to hood door and trunk.
Swan neck with original paterea and finials.
Applied base panel.
Ogee feet (original).
Width at widest point 21.75" (Hood).
Dial :
Rolling moon 17" x 12" arch dial featuring a superb man-o-war
painting flying the flag of a Rear Admiral of the Red on the sea
scape.
The dial false is stamped Ashwin & Co, dialmakers who worked
in Paradise Street, Birmingham 1777-91.
Dial painted 'Knight, Birmingham'
Matching, hour, minute and seconds hands.
Aperture calendar mouth.
Arabic numerals. It is believed that this clock may have originally
had Roman numerals.
which were re-painted in the early 1800's to cater for the new fashion
of Arabic numerals.

Thomas Knight's known working dates were 1785 - 1791 and he
worked in Bull Street, Birmingham:

This clock was believed to have once belonged to the Charrington
brewing family at Maple Hayes House, Lichfield, a former manor house.
The house was owned by a Colonel Negus in 1947 when the clock was
purchased in auction. Maple hayes House later became a boarding
school for King Edward V1 Grammar School and then a school for dyslexic
children.
