Regency period clock with choice mahogany and maple veneers.
Swan neck pediments with original brass paterae.
Integral pillars to hood in maple veneers matching with maple veneer to sides
of trunk.
Club shaped observation windows to sides of hood.
Long trunk door with square top and satinwood inlay.
Base with satinwood inlay and plinth on Bun Feet.
Width at widest point 19.75" (Hood).
Original glass in hood.
Dial :
Painted 18" x 13" dial featuring well painted sailing ship in arch flying
the Red Ensign.
Matching steel hour, minute and second hands.
Roman numerals.
Spandrels of the semi - geometric nature which were popular at the time consisting
of fans, circles and zig - zags painted in bright colours.
Pendulum bob superbly painted with colourful sailing ship to compliment the ship
in dial arch.
Maker :
Alex Boyd appears in the reference books as working in Belfast in 1814 but must
have moved to Greenock by about 1820 when this clock was made.
